About

Gurm Bacchus BA(Hons.), MEd., MA Psychotherapy, MBACP.

I am a qualified psychotherapist and a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and run my clinical practice at The Tower Clinic, Leeds. I work with clients on a range of issues including:

  • Bereavement, grief, and loss.
  • Coping with acute, chronic, or terminal illness.
  • Generalised and health-related anxiety.
  • Stress management.

My primary approach is based on principles from the Person-Centred model which aims to be non-directive and allows the client to lead the psychotherapy session. My counselling work is also informed by the works of Carl Jung and Joseph Campbell and Attachment Theory, Continuing Bonds, and Mean-Making frameworks.

I have also trained in and make use of the Provocative Change Works (PCW) model which is able to shift the client’s “stuck state” and stimulate new ways of thinking and feeling. PCW works equally well in coaching, business, therapeutic and personal development.

I received my MA in Psychotherapy with distinction for my research study into psychotherapists’ experiences of working with End-of-Life phenomena (Death-Bed Visions, Death-Bed Coincidences, and After-Death Communication). I am also currently a PhD student in Psychotherapy and Mental Health at Leeds Beckett University researching the role of End-of-Life Phenomena in bereavement counselling.

Workshops

I recently (13/05/24) ran a workshop on bereavement counselling for the student counselling service at Leeds Beckett University.

Volunteer Positions

I have been a volunteer bereavement counsellor at the Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice, Leeds since 2018 and at the Marie Curie Hospice, Bradford since 2019.
